About Nellie
Nellie is our much loved family pet and our first experience of owning an Irish Terrier. She will be 9 years old in early 2026 and continues to bring much joy to our lives. In Nellie we have a highly intelligent and at times downright cheeky dog who is full of fun. Prior to choosing the breed we spent a day at the Discover Dogs show, Excel. Armed with a short list of 20 breeds (not including the IT!) it was here that we discovered the breed we have subsequently fallen in love with. Being courageous, inquisitive and friendly Nellie knows her own mind.

Training was a challenge and remains ongoing. We spent six weeks going to classes with Nellie, run by an ex police dog handler. These were an experience and the kids still recite the story of Nellie nearly being given up on by the trainer as she was stubborn and persistent in going her own way! She is still not perfect now but is definitely mellowing with age!!

Nellie's first litter, large at 11 pups, was an incrdible experience. With a decent pedigree behind her including American Champions and strong European lines we felt it was important to make sure her fairly unique gene pool for the UK was put to best use. Expert advice from seasoned breeders was sought and we produced fine examples of this amazing breed. Head on over to the pedigree page for the detail of Nellie and Paddy.

Following the success in 2019 we got the breeding bug. After false hope in early 2021 Nellie was successfully mated in late summer 2022 and became proud mum of a second litter of 11. William's pedigree is over on the Pedigree page.

After a fallow season, Nellie was mated for her final time in 2023 and had a third litter, this time becoming mum to a further 10 puppies. The sire to this litter was Freddie, from the Holbam Kennel, again pedigree over on the Pedigree page, and we kept Edna from this litter to be able to continue the breeding line.
